What it doesn't cover is why the pool is that specific shade of blue, why there are three bedrooms with completely different personalities, or what you'll find on the kitchen counter when you arrive. Terra Luz is inside the Indian Palms Country Club, across the street from the Empire Polo Grounds, home of Coachella and Stagecoach. It is full of vibrant color and culture reflective of wabi-sabi warmth and the patina of Old Havana. Terra Luz hosts like a retreat without feeling removed, cocooned like you'd feel in the shaded comfort of a cabana. It's relaxed, protective, deeply inviting, and designed for long restorative afternoons, slow dinners, and effortless togetherness. It is made for groups and families who travel with intention, grown-ups who still know how to play, linger, and let the day unfold. While the property is staged with all king beds to attract adults, it's versatile for hosting children with ease (pack n play, twin size trundles, plus twin daybed); and, by intention, its vibrant yet grounded tone promotes a calm and natural rhythm parents crave when traveling with energetic kiddos.

The pool and spa
The pool is the center of the property and we designed everything outward from it. The accent color is Frida Kahlo blue, a specific saturated cobalt that reads differently depending on the time of day. At noon it's electric. At sunset it goes almost purple. At night with the light on it looks like something you'd see in a film set in Havana in 1958. The outdoor space is color-drenched in terracotta (Behr Orange Flambe, to be exact), from the walls to the pergola overhead, and that warm backdrop is exactly why the Kahlo blue snaps so hard against it. Intentional contrast: grounded earth, luminous water.
In-pool loungers are built in along the shallow end. No float required. You can lie in the water without any effort, which is the entire point of an in-pool lounger in 105-degree heat. Simple pleasures, amplified: book in one hand, cold drink in the other, pool reflections catching the light. Perfect for quiet indulgence or a photo that'll make everyone at home jealous.

The spa is complimentary with every stay. Separate from the pool, heats up in about an hour, and seats four comfortably. Most guests use it more than they expect. Desert nights drop to the 60s even in summer, and a hot tub at midnight under a clear sky is hard to argue with.
Pool heating is optional during cooler months (November through May): $75/day, two-day minimum. Give me 24 hours' notice before arrival and it'll be ready when you get there. The pool isn't heated by default in summer because it doesn't need to be.
The patio and outdoor kitchen
The covered patio runs the full length of the back of the house. String lights overhead, an outdoor dining table that seats eight, and a sectional that faces the pool. West Elm outdoor furniture, Business and Pleasure throw pillows. It's set up for spending a full day outside without going back in except to use the bathroom. Evenings shift naturally here: guests gather around the fire pit for casual meals, grilled dinners, or order-in from local favorites like Desert Beer pizza. After dark with the inflatable movie screen up, pool lit, fire going, the patio becomes its own world. There's a curated watchlist in the house guide if you want it, nods to world travel like Casablanca or Buena Vista Social Club, and family flicks like Coco and Encanto that are genuinely fun for adults too.

The outdoor kitchen has a gas grill, a prep counter, and a bar-height eating ledge along one side. If your group wants to cook outside every night, you can. If you want to use the indoor kitchen and bring plates out, the kitchen window makes that easy, turning both the breakfast nook and the patio into one continuous gathering space.
The living room and entryway
The entryway sets the tone for the whole house. Terracotta-toned kitchen walls, a curved arch opening into the living room, and the first glimpse of the Kahlo blue from the back windows. All of it designed as an introduction. You're supposed to slow down when you walk in. The living room glows at check-in, warm light spilling across terracotta floors and rich textures, inviting guests to settle in before they've even put their bags down.

The living room opens onto the patio and pool through glass doors. Rattan furniture, natural wood, a sectional with enough seating for the whole group and a 72" Smart TV with Netflix to catch up on your favorite shows. Everything flows out toward the pool, calm yet alive with personality, color, and culture, which is where most guests end up spending most of their time anyway.
The living room. The glass doors stay open most of the day in fall and spring. In summer, you run the AC and appreciate them from the inside.
The kitchen and dining
The kitchen is fully equipped: a full-size stainless steel refrigerator, a gas range, a dishwasher, and enough counter space to actually cook. Cafe Bustelo coffee grounds for drip coffee, a pour over, or a French press. Sunlight streams across the bar top in the morning and the kitchen window opens directly to the pool, so morning coffee flows effortlessly into poolside conversation. The breakfast nook alongside the window becomes the social heart of the house before most guests even realize it.

The dining table seats eight and sits between the kitchen and the living room, close enough to the patio that the whole space feels connected when the sliding door is open. Decorative tile wall detail behind the table, cement-look floor tile. The same Old Havana logic runs through here: warm, grounded, a little more interesting than expected. Dinner calls are easy to answer from anywhere in the house.

The bedrooms
Three bedrooms, each with a different character. This was intentional. Most rental houses have three identical rooms with different colored pillows. Terra Luz has three rooms that feel like they belong to different people, which works well for groups where not everyone has the same taste. The color story throughout maximizes natural desert light with low-profile furnishings and natural textures, so each room feels airy despite the saturated moments. From one space to the next, it's vibrant but easy, bold without being loud.
The primary bedroom
King bed, private ensuite bathroom, the most "resort" feeling of the three rooms. Balanced and calm, like its own private retreat: sage green walls, natural wood bed frame, plush cream bedding, and warm finishes that create a sense of serenity and ease. Live-edge bench at the foot of the bed, rattan fan piece above the headboard, heavy white linen curtains that go blackout when you need them. For families, the twin daybed and pull-out trundle handle two extra little ones comfortably, no pack-and-play tetris required. The ensuite has a walk-in shower, large walk in closet, and double sinks with enough counter space for two people.

The Wild Tropics bedroom
King bed, tropical wallpaper, and a mood that reads as somewhere between a Havana hotel and a Palm Springs boutique circa 1972. (The Pink Cabana at Sands Hotel & Spa was our inspiration here!) Retro tropical wallpaper paired with Anthropologie striped curtains adds boutique hotel personality, more grounded and more personal than precious. This room creates a delightful personal cove, a colorful cocoon that soothes as much as it rejuvenates. Guests either love it or find it overwhelming, and there's no middle ground. The people who love it really love it.

The Cali Room
King bed with a DIY trundle that pulls out from underneath, built from plywood with caster wheels to fit under a king frame with 14 inches of clearance. The headboard is actually IKEA rattan cabinet doors mounted wall-to-wall, reads as a custom built-in. Behind the stained louvered bifold doors: a Frida Kahlo blue lime-washed workstation with a floating wall to wall desk, West Elm woven chair, and TV mounted above. The room balances fun and function, patterned terracotta tile floors accented with pops of cobalt blue, a playful design moment that stays genuinely practical: couples, families with one kid, or anyone in the group who needs a place to actually get work done.
