Walking to the Festival

You made it. Months of planning and the week is finally here. Good news: you have the best location to the festival. No long shuttle lines or crazy surge pricing. Time to relax.

The Yellow Path

The Yellow Path at 49th and Monroe is your best bet for walking. End to end it's about a mile and a half, so bring your comfortable shoes since the path is gravel.

The Monroe gate to Indian Palms is at 48th and Monroe. Once you get to the front gate, make a left onto Monroe and head south toward 49th.

Biking May Be the Easiest Option

Seriously. I've heard of people buying a cheap bike on Craigslist before the festival, bringing a lock, and biking directly to the designated bike parking at the entrance. No gravel path, no waiting for a golf cart, no surge pricing.

You're 0.7 miles from the front gate. On a bike that's under 5 minutes. Grab a $50 beater, lock it up, and sell it or donate it on your way out.

Note on Pedestrian Restrictions

No pedestrians allowed on Monroe (between Ave 49 and Ave 52) or Madison (between Ave 50 and Ave 52).

Golf Cart Rides

Many residents offer rides via cars, trucks, or golf carts for a fee. Important distinction: golf carts can only take you to the front gate. Vehicles (trucks, SUVs) can take you all the way to the festival drop-off site on Monroe. Ask when you call or text where exactly they drop off.

At the end of the night, golf carts will be waiting at the front gate offering rides home for about $10 a person, but prices may vary! Worth it if your feet are done.

Also worth considering: eScooters are available through mobile apps during festival weekends. Faster than walking, no gravel, no waiting.

Plan ahead. These contacts are word of mouth, not officially endorsed. Prices may vary — always confirm the rate with the driver when you call.

Limited Cell Coverage

With hundreds of thousands of people in the area, cell service gets spotty. Plan ahead: save contacts, download maps offline, and coordinate meeting spots before you go in.

Indian Palms

Indian Palms Country Club entrance sign in Indio, CA

Indian Palms Country Club, Indio, CA

Within the gated community, it's about a 0.7 mile walk to the front security gate, then an additional 0.3 miles to the Yellow Path. Signs throughout the community show the path to get there. You'll likely find community members offering golf cart rides or "tailgate taxis" to the front gate for some extra cash.

Gate Rules

The only gate you are permitted to walk through is on Monroe (the main gate). Signs throughout the community show the path to get there.

The festival drop-off area for Ubers and street vehicles is on Monroe, about half a mile from the main gate. From that drop-off point it's roughly a 1.5 mile walk to the main festival entrance.

Food and Drinks at the Gate

There are food and drink vendors in the parking lot near the front gate, along with a restaurant and bar called Hangar 19. The BBQ spot stays open late, even after the festival wraps up. Good to know for the walk back.

Amenities While You're Here

When you're not at the festivals, enjoy everything Indian Palms has to offer:

Coachella Grounds

Once you get to the front gate of Indian Palms, cross the street and make a left.

Stagecoach Grounds

Once you get to the front gate of Indian Palms, cross the street and make a left.

Driving

It gets extremely congested. Avoid driving if at all possible. If you must drive, avoid 48th and Monroe as it will be gridlocked.

Free day parking: Coachella offers free day parking if you have a designated driver. Arrive before 3pm. After that, lots fill up fast and you'll get turned away at entrance after entrance with no clear direction on which lots still have space. If you use free parking, either leave a few minutes before the headliner ends or stay near the back of the crowd so you can move quickly when it wraps. Either beats sitting in the lot for an hour.

GateDetails
Monroe Gate Only gate for guest entry. Security staff in attendance. Extra workstation added to double processing capacity. During peak hours, the transponder-only lane converts to allow general guest and paper pass access.
Ave 48 + Jackson Gates Operate as usual, no security officers. Entry via license plate — your host registers your plate in Proptia in advance. Pull up to the gate arm and it opens automatically in about 5 seconds. If it doesn't, return to the Monroe gate.
Avenue 50 Gate Restricted by Indio Police to residents only. Do not use this gate as you will be turned around.

Closed Streets

Traffic around the polo fields gets heavy starting the Thursday before each weekend through the Monday after. For 2026: expect congestion April 9-13 (Coachella W1), April 16-20 (Coachella W2), and April 23-27 (Stagecoach). The streets below are closed during festival hours.
